Kestrel Identity
Kestrel design buildings with a ruthless economy of means. Their identity needed the same discipline: one grid, two weights, a single accent, and absolutely nothing decorative.

Architecture practices tend to hide behind photography. Kestrel wanted an identity that could hold a page on its own, before a single building is shown.
How the work was actually done.
Three decisions that shaped the outcome more than anything else on the project.
- 01
One grid, endlessly recombined
A nine-cell grid with a fixed corner radius generates every mark, poster and page division. The system is small enough to hold in your head and deep enough to never repeat.
- 02
Colour as punctuation
Near-black on bone white, with a single saturated orange used once per composition. Restraint makes the accent do real work.
- 03
Ship the guidelines as code
The brand manual is the website. Tokens are published as CSS custom properties, so the studio's future collateral inherits the system rather than approximating it.

Kestrel now has an identity their team can extend without a designer in the room, and a site that loads in under a second on a rural connection.
It is the first brand system we have been given that we can actually operate ourselves. Nothing in it is arbitrary.
